OPENING OF A HAIRDRESSING SALON AND CREATION OF THREE TRAINING PLACES

Through years of contact with St Mary’s Primary School in Techiman, the association received information about the difficult situation of school leavers. After finishing state schools, a large proportion of girls and boys in Ghana do not find suitable vocational training in their hometown or their parents cannot afford the training. This gave birth to the idea of creating free training places in a hairdressing salon.

In the newly constructed building in Techiman, directly next to the water store, a hairdressing salon was built step by step, which is clearly different from all other salons in Techiman in terms of equipment. The hairdresser Adisa Amadu, as the proud boss of the salon, has led the interior construction with local craftsmen and tilers. A special highlight in the interior construction of the hair salon is a water connection as well as an indoor toilet, which is rather unusual in Ghana.

At the same time, association member Kerstin Schindler contacted Nina Heinisch in Berlin. The owner of the hairdresser’s store P3 Haarkunst was just closing a hair salon in Berlin-Wilmersdorf. When she heard about the project, she donated all her hairdressing equipment. Drying hoods, hairdressing trolleys, swivel chairs, curlers, brushes, towels, advertising displays and posters were soon able to make the journey to Ghana by sea freight. In the summer of 2022, the time had come: the hair salon was opened, and two girls started their training directly. The costs for the interior fittings and the provision of three apprenticeships amount to around EUR 6,000.

  • Creation of up to three free apprenticeships per year.
  • Economic independence for the owner Adisa Amadu.
  • Eliminating travel costs for clients with the hair salon directly in the residential area.
