OPENING OF A SECOND-HAND BOUTIQUE WITH JOBS FOR TWO MORE WOMEN

In Germany, used textiles and shoes often end up in containers at the side of the road, supposedly for a good cause or for people in need – but unfortunately this is not always the case. Behind these containers are often unscrupulous traders who make huge profits by processing and shipping used textiles in 3rd world countries and especially on the African continent. We wanted to show that there is another way.

The third store of the new building in Techiman was to be a store with second-hand clothes, shoes and accessories for adults and children. For three years, the association members and many supporters collected clothing, shoes, school bags, scarves, glasses and jewelery for adults and children. In May 2022, another sea freight container with the goods could be shipped from Berlin to Ghana. Fortunately, DHL Global Forwarding again took over the sea freight transport in the amount of about 2,500 euros through the ILF of the DPDHL Group. At the same time, local carpenters from Techiman are manufacturing wooden shelves and clothes racks for the interior of the store.

In June 2022, Annekatrin Jacobs and Kofi Mahama Ajima once again traveled to Techiman and used their vacation time to sort through all the goods that had arrived, label them with a price gun, and fill the shelves and clothing racks with them step by step. The prices of the goods were calculated so favourably that every family in the residential area can afford the items.

In April 2023 an opening party took place. When the DJ started the music at 10 a.m. on Easter Saturday, countless children and adults from the entire residential area flocked to the front of the storefront and danced with great joy despite a very hot 33 degrees. Even the workers from the neighboring Gari factory stopped by for a little dance. To cool down, around 200 guests were served iced fruit drinks from local production and of course cold water from the water store. It was a wonderful celebration that everyone will remember for a long time.
